Context

Imagine you are a person with disabilities and requires mobility assistance (e.g. wheelchair). Every day you would need to walk up a staircase to get to work. This caused you inconvenience and you wish there would be other facilities to help you and people with disabilities navigate these stairs and you hope that the government would pay attention to step-free access facilities around the neighborhood. What would you do if you don’t have access to a medium to voice your concern to government authorities?

Motivation

In order to resolve these issues in a timely and efficient manner, a mutual and interdependent relationship between citizens and higher public institutions, which must be built with these 5 basic values:

  1. Transparency
  2. Proactiveness
  3. Communication
  4. Involvement
  5. Trust

Our project wants to make communication between citizens and public institutions more transparent, and to encourage citizen engagement and participation in problem-solving and decision-making.

The main idea behind our product is leveraging the power of crowdsourcing, which has been utilized in different settings such as Wikipedia edits and personal safety management. Prior research has shown that crowdsourcing in managing safety of communities have been highly effective [1]. Hence, our project aims to improve the effectiveness of voicing out citizen’s needs through crowdsourcing reports and interactions among citizens.
